I have never used it for cold drinks. Only hot. I make coffee blended with butter, MCT oil, and an assortment of powders. This is primarily the drink I keep in it. Other than that, hot coffee.
I wash by hand with a dish soap and vinegar mix, no problem with paint. However, for about six months I used a dishwashing machine with a cheap packet detergent that caused the paint on the bottle to peel. It would come off on my hand as I used it, in little flecks. The product use instructions say not to use cleaner with bleach in it. I think this was my problem. I used a clorox or bleach type dishwasher soap, and when I did the paint was peeling.
The bottle still keeps drinks hot and insulates just as well as the first day I bought it. I sometimes make coffee, pour into bottle and seal, and find it piping hot four hours later.
Damages: The metal part of the body has two deformations. First on the rim. You can see from the photo that it is flattened a bit where I dropped it once while cleaning. The lid still screws on fine and does not leak since the rubber gasket fits lower in the mouth. Second on the outer, upper edge near the front. Not sure when that happened, see below.
The rubber parts are still in tact and functional. The top sealant piece has absolutely no problems. The small, spring-action hinge comes out from its hook every once in a while. I would estimate about once every two months. It's a simple fix. I place a fingertip on either side of the loose part of the ring, and press into the edge of the cap where the rectilinear hook is located. The ring fits back into place and stays. The cap, with it's one-hand flip function, still works perfectly. Maybe a fraction of a second slower than brand new. The simple, occasional fix is well worth the longevity of this bottle. Even without the rubber ring secured, I can still open and close fine if it happens in the car and I can't use both hands to fix it in the moment.
The brand logo has completely worn off. This happened within the last year, and I'm not sure why. Looks kinda cool.
General usage: For two and a half years, I took this to work daily on my commutes. Fits into my Civic cup holder, it's quite tall but great for easy grabbing. After I quit, I took it with me on a backpacking trip through southeast Asia for three months. I kept it in the top or side of my 48L Osprey pack, both on ground and in flights. I checked my bag in every time, using an airport transporter bag also by Osprey. The damage to the body may have come from these episodes, but I doubt it.
Specific usage: I first used the Thermos in the car while driving. I would pop the lid with one hand and drink while steering with the other. It is pretty heavy, maybe three pounds when full, so I didn't drink on turns or in complicated traffic. Drink responsibly, right? About two years later, I used it primarily in the office and at home with a mug on the side. So I unscrewed the cap, poured into a mug, and drank from the mug. Meaning I haven't used the cap for the full three years, just so you know.
Size: It's a great size for the amount it holds. Fully three cups of coffee. Magnificent.
Handling: It can be quite thick and heavy for a one-handed grip. More like holding a football than a cup. Again, I would guess it weighs about three pounds when full. Get used to the balance, though, and even the daintiest user can be ready to rock and roll.
Style: It's a sleek, black cylinder. Batman could be carrying this around Gotham without missing a beat. I can't complain. The only thing I would caution about is in airports and high tension places, like Los Angeles freeways, and especially when you travel overseas. It can look like a weapon, no joke. Be careful when you bust it out to suddenly take a swig, that you aren't doing it in front of an officer or in a threatening way. I can see how this could lead to alarm. However, I have not had any real issues. Just one funny look from a driver in Los Angeles one time when I lifted it up for a drink.
If you are looking for a lighter alternative, I would suggest the Zojirushi 12 oz. bottle. I also traveled with that, for my wife. Lighter, much easier to hold, just as functional and durable. Keep an eye out for that review.

Thanks for reading and leave a comment if you want to add or refute. I'll respond if I need to.
A relative is suffering from a debilitating illness, one which impairs the proper use of ones hands, and causes ones balance, and judgment of distance to be mightily affected. We have all been engaged in a months long search, which would allow the dignity, and self-control of managing to drink when, and as one chooses .
We have tried every type of mug, especially those of the type with a tightly-fitting top, and an opening of a giant, and flexible straw. However, in that category, every mug that seemed to the safe, and above all- stable, inevitably let us down. They were quite heavy, did not maintain the cold or heat of the drink considered , for any appreciable length of time, and were difficult for our relative to coordinate the use of.
However, the very worse problem, and the most humiliating, and dignity affecting issue was the ease with which the other styles of drink container tumbled to the ground, or spilled over everything in the vicinity. This gave our believed family member a terrible sense of humiliation, upon being unable to even take a sip of juice of ones own. The dignity lost, and the guilt unnecessarily suffered while watching us make-up the sodden bed, over and over again, led to tears, and an awful feeling of uselessness and lack of self-worth.
We tried in every way possible to assuage these feelings, but things were just becoming worse and worse. Drinking with assistance, or under ones own power might seem of little importance to the healthy portion of the population, but it is a huge measure of dignity for those having already lost so much through incurable illness. This simply could not continue. The least that we could do was to find a safe and easy solution to this problem for our beloved family-member.
I turned to Amazon, after many family members counted-out the traditional stores with absolutely no success whatsoever. Someone was looking over me when I performed my searches upon Amazon. Almost immediately this thermos sprang into view. Bothf on the page, and in the description, this seemed to be sent to us as the perfect solution for all of the problems being endured by our beloved relative.
However, it was one of those things that I really needed to see, in order to ascertain the appropriate, useful, and suitable nature of the product. I also ordered a few other insulated liquid drinking device, just in case this Thermos did not work out. I received the Thermos almost immediately, washed it well, and telling no one proceeded to put this through every test that I could think of.
The device works in that a large top screws open, allowing for the addition of the fluid required. The opening was evening large enough for the addition of ice cubes, a luxury we had not even dreamed of asking for.. one adds the liquid and appropriate amount of oce cubes to the Thermos, taking care not to over-fill, otherwise leakage will occur. Then the top is screwed on tightly, and the Thermos is ready for use.
There is a small, but more than adequate opening on the Thermos top. This is opened by the slipping-down of a thing metal protective strip, specifically designed to hold the opening tightly closed should it be dropped, or tumble to the floor. Once this piece has been easily opened (A nail file can also be utilized to allow for even easier opening of the metal piece.), one pushes in upon the portion which opens to allow the drinking opening to be exposed, and it is possible to slowly and steadily take small sips of the liquid.
Once one is finished, the procedure is reversed, with lastly the oh so important metal strip being snapped back into place. These procedures require bono great hand strength, or depth of vision, and are quite easy to perform. The Thermos states that it will maintain cool liquids for 24 hours, and warm for 12. This is more than true, according to the tests that I repeatedly ran before finally presenting this treasured object to our sad and dejected, beloved relative.
At first, there was great reluctance to even try the device. So many had been tested, all leading to failure. However, we were very encouraging, testing the Thermos ourselves, just to demonstrate how practical it was for its intended purpose. Finally, our relative opened the Thermos, and enjoyed a long, cooling, refreshing drink of Cranberry juice. The resulting smile, dancing eyes, and beaming face brought tears to our eyes. Everyone was so happy, and we even threw it on the floor several times, just to demonstrate its hardiness, and durability. We have hardwood floors, and the Thermos suffered absolutely no damage. I can not speak as to its durability upon other types of flooring.
Such a seemingly little thing, yet our relative's life has been so improved by the use of this Thermos. No more humiliating, and undignified ( In their eyes, never ours.) falls, resulting in spillage of whatever the drink was. No more feeling a useless burden to us all ( Again, in their eyes only, our believed relative could never be such to us.), and best of all, in this small, but oh so important area - the feeling of regaining control over at least a small part of ones life, after having lost so much.
I will purchase 3 more of these, so that there is always one available as needed.i am returning the other brands which I had ordered, there is no need for them. This Thermos has proven itself as a sturdy, easily used, device which has allowed the return of some dignity to the life of one for whom we have so much love . There will be other issues to be encountered and resolved. But the look of satisfaction and self-sufficiently upon the face of our relative has given us all so much happiness, and added a quiet dignity to a life suffering so much from the loss of the same.
We are truly grateful, and can not recommend this Thermos enough for the use as described in the preceding review.
One caveat, to those for whom it is relevant: The thermos has a fairly wide base, wider than my car cup holder and perhaps yours. That would be a drawback if you want to take it on your morning commute; on the other hand, it is spill-proof with the lid closed, so you could just hold it between your legs.
